Rollo's return gives this story, which has now spanned generations, a wonderful tether back to the first season. It ties so many things together and nicely reminds us that this series has an active, thriving memory. Before Lagertha and Bjorn, with Heahmund as their sponsor, start a new chapter over in England, the past must be dealt with. And Rollo is the shadow that still looms over them all.
When Rollo arrives, Bjorn wants to kill him. Lagertha hears him out. Rollo reveals the backstory of Bjorn being his son – maybe. Lagertha won’t confirm or deny the claim.
“This is the last time we’ll meet,” he tells her. I wonder if it’s the last we’ll see of Rollo on this show? They’ve made him look awfully old—like Ragnar before him—sparing only the women from any visible aging signs. Lagertha, despite her sudden white hair, remains wrinkle-free, as beautiful as ever. The white hair might make her even more beautiful. Torvi (Georgia Hirst), too, remains as young as ever.

Elsewhere, Margrethe has gone truly mad. After being locked up with the pigs, she’s taken by Ivar back to Kattegat where Hvitserk unties her and carries her off. Ivar laughs, “She’s going to kill you,” but Hvitserk is, despite his odd choice of allies, a gentle soul. She probably will someday. We see very little of Ivar. He bristles at Rollo’s absurd “deal” and rages when Lagertha is nowhere to be found.
Www.history.com The battle continues with. Vikings fans can all agree that, 'A Moment's Vision,' was the mid-season finale we had all been waiting for. Returning to Kattegat, the tension between the sons of Ragnar Lothrok, ( ) came a climax as the two brothers confronted each other on the battlefield. It's a violent and intense episode, brothers kill brothers, lovers kill lovers and the powerful become weak.
He was a real guy. He was a man of God, but he was a warrior. “So he came into the show [because] I needed a strong Saxon. But he's also a deeply sensual man, for which he punishes himself. So I thought, 'Who is a deeply sensual man going to be attracted to when he's introduced to Pagan society, to Viking society?' Well, Lagertha. “Obviously the first time he met this famous shield maiden, he would be attracted to her.” Describing the power-couple's romance as “organic”, Michael revealed that it wasn’t a pre-planned coupling, but it made sense for Heahmund to fall for her.
I wish the writing had done a better job of highlighting Ivar’s ever increasing sickness to get Lagertha. Ivar’s revenge is going to cost Kattegat’s people a ton of raids. But the scene plays slightly comical as Rollo rattles off his exorbitant demands “Yearly tribute of 6,000 pounds of silver, 2,000 gold, 5,000 pounds of furs, tusks and pelts, 1,000 slaves, 200 tons of meat,” and keeps rattling “And every year 300 precious stones, 100 ells of silk, and 500 of your best warriors for my personal guard And each of you must swear on your arm rings that you will come to my assistance if I’m ever attacked.” I like that Hirst finally fixes the historical problem he created when he abandoned Rollo in Francia, a lone Northman in Normandy, translation – “Northman Land”. He finally gives Rollo an army of Viking warriors for his personal guard. I also like, the reappearance of Ivar’s tell. It is the only glimpse of tension over the price he’s willing to pay.
It’s a shame we don’t see more of Ragnar’s older brother, but his appearance here is designed to remind Ivar that he’s not free to do as he pleases. Ivar probably believes that he doesn’t need to be concerned about his uncle since Rollo helped him take down Lagertha and Bjorn, but when Rollo lays out his terms for an alliance, Ivar suddenly takes on the look of a boy being scolded by an adult. Is Rollo setting up Ivar to fail, or is he merely reminding his nephew that there’s a pecking order in place? We’ve watched as Rollo struggles to carve out a place for himself during his younger brother’s rise to power in the north, but once he moves to Frankia and marries Gisla, it doesn’t take long to learn that this is an intelligent man, who for whatever reason, was unable to separate himself from Ragnar’s success. Now, however, his motivations for helping Ivar become even cloudier. He rides to visit Lagertha and Bjorn with a proposal and a stunning revelation.
← Previous The fifth season of the television series premiered on November 29, 2017 on in. The series broadly follows the exploits of the legendary Viking chieftain and his crew, and later those of his sons. The first season of the series begins at the start of the, marked by the Lindisfarne raid in 793.
With the prophecy of death always hanging over Lagertha's head, we know her days are numbered. Meanwhile, Rollo is expected to live until a ripe old age. But just because Rollo may never see Lagertha again doesn't necessarily mean he won't return to the show in the future, sharing scenes with Bjorn. Or at least we hope so. If Rollo really is Bjorn's father, we'd hate to see things end between them like this. Vikings airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on History. With this look I wonder if Lagertha is having second thoughts. All her ties to Ragnar and her old life are disappearing. She chooses to go with Bishop Heahmund, who just told her he’s ending their relationship and going back to the church in England.
Lagertha doesn’t like disloyalty, and this guy raises his sword (literally and figuratively) for whomever took him captive last. He’s loyal only to his God, unless he can get laid. The writing on this story line leaves me like this: Rollo’s Demands Rollo’s trade deal has little to do with the army he lent to defeat Lagertha. Uncle Rollo has the upper hand, knowing Lagertha’s whereabouts, and Ivar’s insanity.
Remember Bjorn chose Lagertha over Ragnar when he was twelve. So he’s really only her son. But there is another revelation when Rollo meets the refugees Rollo is full blown Christian.
His mother, Judith, wants Alfred married immediately, to ensure his heir. Aethelred does the same thing his father before him did, blindly fight Vikings at the request of the king.

At this, Lagertha formally refused Rollo's offer and the two shared a short farewell in which Rollo told the one true love of his life, 'We will never meet again.' Could this line be true? Does this mean we've really gotten our last Rollo-Lagertha scene ever? It may be so.
But does he have his father’s faith or his own ambitions? Rollo tells Ivar where Lagertha is. But Lagertha gets out of town before Ivar arrives. They steals a boat, in what looks like Harald’s port. Did Rollo tell them to get out of Norway immediately?
Ivar will find them soon enough if they don’t leave. Sure enough, Rollo goes back and makes an outrageous deal with Ivar for riches he cannot possibly provide in order for Rollo to tell him the location of Lagertha and Bjorn. Fortunately (and likely Rollo knew this) they’ve already made good their escape. Bishop Heahmund Heahmund is full of crap, by the way. He tells Lagertha that he’s been celibate up until he met her, something we know isn’t the case given we were introduced to him at the end of Season 4 while he was in the middle of rather passionate relations with a woman. Then again, priests and bishops of this era were under no obligation to be celibate to begin with, something that wasn’t made an actual Church doctrine until the Second Lateran Council held in 1139, hundreds of years after the events of this show (though the events of this show are such a mish-mash of different historical times that it hardly matters.
Vikings’ season five midseason finale presented an explosive battle, filled with character deaths plot payoffs. With all eyes on the History Network and Amazon Prime as episode 11 is due later on this year, Vikings creator Michael Hirst spoke to ET Online to discuss the upcoming episodes, and where the fan-favourite characters will be headed this year. Discussing Rollo’s (Clive Standen) triumphant return in season five, Michael revealed: 'Like any other fan, I was thrilled to see Rollo sailing into the show, but he's come back to deal with things which were never dealt with in the past. “And we're going back to season one here, where there were huge questions about his relationship, and Ragnar's relationship with Lagertha, and what had actually happened between them all - and frankly, whose son Bjorn was. “So Rollo is sailing back to deal with things that have been on his mind for a long time, and it's pretty powerful stuff, I must say.”. Michael also revealed that, because Bishop Heahmund (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is based on a real person with a real personality, his upcoming romance with Lagertha (Kathryn Winnick) was destined to arise: 'Bishop Heahmund is a real character.
Lagertha and Bjorn He tells Bjorn this as well, but Bjorn won’t hear it. After all, he looks more like Ragnar than Rollo, so it can’t be true. In fact, this and Rollo’s second betrayal—lending Ivar troops (a wholly unrealistic and unbelievable action that makes no sense historically, but whatever)—stir such rage in Bjorn that he very nearly kills his uncle/father. Lagertha refuses, largely due to Bjorn’s anger, and Rollo departs.

Given that there are no DNA tests in this period, we'll likely never get confirmation either way, but Bjorn told Rollo that he won't acknowledge Rollo as his potential father because it is Ragnar whom he resembles most in appearance, in spirit and in principle. Rollo continued to beg Bjorn to return with him to Frankia, promising him his every heart's desire. However, Rollo's decision to support Ivar was too painful for Bjorn to forgive, with Bjorn even attempting to kill Rollo in a heated exchange. But in the end, Bjorn spared Rollo's life, although he did get one seriously low blow in during the process. 'You are not worth the time it takes to clean the blood off my hands,' Bjorn said, walking away from a heartbroken Rollo.
